Curriculum and Assessment

Zero-3 yearsGrowing, Moving, Learning – Infant Toddler ToolkitThe Toolkit in our curriculum provides developmentally appropriate activities that meet the need for helpful, fun and meaningful experiences to support healthy eating, physical activity and health awareness for the youngest children in early care and education settings.

The toolkit has three volume series:

  • Birth through 12 Months
  • 12-24 Months
  • 24-36 Months.

Each volume has classroom and family activities which work together to focus on a particular area of development, skill or concept. Each volume consists of these sections:

  • Classroom Activities
  • Activities to Do at Home
  • and Healthy Home Connection.

These activities are useful in promoting health awareness and healthy lifestyles for the youngest children in Favored Children Academy. Early care and education programs have the chance to make a significant impact on physical development and developing healthy lifestyles in infants and toddlers when they promote healthy eating and physical activity as part of daily routines and educational activities.

Favored Children Academy also incorporates the concepts designed in the Delaware Early Learning Foundations for Infants and Toddlers. The Foundations is intended to help formulate a curriculum framework and to be used as a guide for daily and monthly planning. The Foundations are linked to the skill expectations children will develop as they grow. Our concept is to provide learning opportunities that are intended to be sets of broad-based activities through which children are exposed to new learning concepts, thus having the “opportunity” to acquire new skills, practice those skills, as well as master previously learned skills. As development progresses children build upon earlier skills and develop more complex skill sets. The Foundations provide a solid basis upon which Favored Children Academy plans its daily, monthly, and annual instructional activities.

The Foundations document is organized into four domains:

  • Social Emotional
  • Language and Literacy
  • Discoveries
  • Physical Development and Health

Delaware Early Learning Foundations: Preschool Favored Children Academy uses the Foundations as a document intended to be a curriculum framework and used as a guide for daily, weekly and monthly planning. The purpose is to provide an outline of the types of learning opportunities children need before they come to kindergarten.

The Foundations are linked to the skill expectations children need as they enter kindergarten. The Foundations document for the preschool is organized into eight domains:

  • Social Emotional
  • Approaches to Learning
  • Language and Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • My Family, My Community, My World
  • Creative Expression
  • Physical Development and Health.
